Beginning with its inaugural event in February 2006, the WesMex Regatta has earned the reputation of the premier small boat regatta of Banderas Bay. It is one of the most important youth sailing events of the year in all of Mexico and is one of two “Signature Regattas” of the Vallarta Yacht Club.
The International WesMex Regatta is hosted by Vallarta Yacht Club and sanctioned by the Mexico Sailing Federation, the Mexico Optimist Class Association (AMVCO), the ILCA Mexico Class Association and the iQFoil Class. For 2024, this one design regatta is a qualifier for young sailors from all over Mexico to advance to the 2024 Optimist North Americans, the 2024 Optimist World Championship, and ILCA Youth World Championships.
This 2024 WesMex is part of the "Mexican Circuit of Optimist 2024" therefore it is part of the Ranking of the IODA International Championships, determined the composition of the teams for the North American Optimist Championship 2024 and the Optimist World Championship 2024.
